WHEN SHOULD YOU PUMP YOUR SEPTIC TANK?
A septic tank has a tendency to get filled with fluid and waste over time. When a septic tank is filled, it should be pumped. Usually this process should take place once every three years, but it can be done as much as annually. But how do you know when it is time to get your cesspool pumped?
There are many indicators of when a cesspool should be pumped out. A sure sign of knowing when to get your septic tank pumped is if you notice thick layers of scum and sludge on and around your septic tank. If you see layers of scum on the outside of your tank, it is a good sign that it is time to call AAA Dependable Cesspool Sewer & Drain to get pumping! There are some other key signs to look for including:
- A slow draining bathtub, shower, or washing machine.
- Toilets taking a long time to stop running after being flushed.
- The ground around your septic tank has a foul odor.
- Pool of water around the drainfield or septic tank.
By looking for these things, you may very well save yourself a lot of time and money on cesspool pumping. Although it is smart to get your cesspool pumped regularly, we understand that you will want to keep it flowing smoothly for years to come.
WHY DO WE NEED SEPTIC TANKS
WHAT IS CESSPOOL PUMPING?
HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU GET YOUR CESPOOL PUMPED?
- Size of Your Household: Usually larger households will generate more solid waste. This means that your septic tank will fill much faster.
- How much wastewater has been generated: This can determine how fast the septic tank fills up. If it fills up faster, it will need to be pumped more often.
- Volume of Solid Waste: If your household has several toilets, or garbage disposals, the septic tank will likely fill up regularly.
- The Size of the Septic Tank: Bigger septic tanks will hold more scum and sludge and need less pumping. Smaller septic tanks will need to be pumped more regularly.
HOW DOES CESSPOOL PUMPING WORK?
Getting your cesspool pumped is a job that you should leave to the professionals. AAA Dependable Cesspool Sewer & Drain is happy to get that job done for you! However, you may be curious about how we do it. First, we recommend that you call us to regularly inspect your septic tank. This will help us determine how often we will need to pump your cesspool. Once we do that, it is time for us to start pumping the sludge from your tank. Usually we will want to do this when the water is about six inches away from the pipe that leads to the drain field.
Next, we will arrive on your property with one of our professional tanker trucks. AAA Dependable Cesspool Sewer & Drain only uses certified vehicles with vacuum equipment that are ready to get the job done right. Once we are parked near your drain field, we will insert a large hose into the septic tank. The hose is inserted once we remove the manhole cover that leads to your cesspool. The vacuum will suck out all the material in your septic tank. We also use high quality muck rakes to break up solids and mix them with liquids to make our pumping process as efficient as possible.
The whole process should only take up an hour or two. AAA Dependable Cesspool Sewer & Drain also works clean, taking the best care of your landscape as possible. We work with you to ensure that the pumping process will be quick and clean!
HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR SEPTIC TANK ON YOUR OWN
- Start reducing your use of water: It is helpful to reduce the amount of water that flows into the septic system. You can do this by taking shorter showers, or even installing a high efficiency toilet.
- Fix small issues rapidly: If you notice leaky faucets or slow drains, it is wise for you to fix them right away. Doing so will save time and money on septic tank pumping.
- Monitor solid waste: If you are able to monitor the amount of solid waste that enters your septic system, you will be making a big difference in how it functions. The less waste the better.
- Be mindful of flushing: Do not flush anything down your toilet besides toilet paper and waste. When you flush other things, you place a stress on your septic system that it simply does not need. By throwing things in the garbage can, you are making a big difference in the management of your septic system. You should also be careful not to pour any grease or chemicals into your toilet or down the drain of your sink.
- Keep your drain field dry: If at all possible, you should direct rainwater in the opposite direction of your drain field. Water that funnels onto your septic system’s drain field can harm its ability to direct water from the septic system.
